Lethal Weapon 1×18 Commencement season finale preview

On the latest episode of Lethal Weapon, Riggs (Clayne Crawford) and Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) teamed up again with DEA Agent Karen Palmer (Hilarie Burton).

The episode opened up with a woman named Maria (Daniella Alonso) carrying a baby across a car park to her car. She noticed that she was being stalked and hid the baby behind a car. She then put a bullet in the guy following her.

Riggs and Palmer had spent another night together in a hotel. While he joked about robbing a bank to afford to pay the hotel prices for breakfast, Palmer’s phone rang. She had to rush off, but not before arranging to meet up again for another night together later. As Riggs left he spotted Palmer talking to a guy he didn’t recognise.

Riggs and Murtaugh were called out to see a body. At the scene Bailey (Michelle Mitchenor) updated them. A man had been found hung from a bridge. It didn’t look to be a suicide though as he was covered in blood and had a bag over his head. They inspected the body and Riggs immediately recognised him as the man Palmer had met with that morning.

Riggs panicked and tried frantically to get hold of Palmer but she wasn’t answering her phone. Fearing the worst he and Roger went to the DEA but found them rather unhelpful. While Roger ran distraction, Riggs snuck into an elevator and made it to Palmer’s desk. There he found an address where she had recently changed the locks. He presumed it was where she lived.

At the address they found what looked to be an abandoned house. Inside it seemed empty until Riggs found Palmer’s phone. In the bathroom they found shackles handing up with blood dripping from them. The bath was also covered and Riggs was worried.

The murdered guy turned out to be a DEA informant for the Flores cartel. Evidence pointed at a man called Gideon (Matt Passmore) for the murder. Gideon ran security for the cartel.

Back at the precinct, Captain Avery (Kevin Rahm) and the DEA had a meeting to share information. Riggs got frustrated and ended up punching DEA Agent Larry Chappel (Ned Vaughn). City Attorney Ronnie Delgado (Tony Plana) had no choice but to suspend Riggs and make him turn in his badge and gun.

Rigs sought help from Dr. Cahill (Jordana Brewster) and wanted access to the police database. She couldn’t help him or she would be in trouble herself. As Riggs stormed out she suggested he try the parking garage and then Riggs realised she was helping him after all. In the garage Riggs found Roger who told him all the information he wasn’t allowed to know. He also let Riggs take his sidearm.

The duo headed out to a motel where they found Maria and the baby. Palmer was also there protecting Maria and Riggs was more than a little happy to see her. Turns out the baby was the son of Tito Flores.

Outside, Gideon and his men arrived to take the baby. He gave them 60 seconds to comply or he would fire a rocket launcher to kill them all. Riggs tried to distract Gideon while Roger got Maria and the baby safely out the back window. As Gideon fired, Riggs and Palmer jumped out the window.

Roger took Maria and the baby to his house while Riggs and Palmer stopped off at his trailer for plenty of guns and lots of flirting. Roger parked up with a toy baby to try and draw the cartel out while Riggs took up a sniper position. A car approached but then turned around and left.

At the Murtaugh household, Maria pulled a gun on Palmer and knocked her out. She decided to take the baby to Tito. At the precinct, Bailey discovered that they had a leak and it was Agent Chappel.

Maria arranged a meet at the LA Convention Center. Riggs and Murtaugh headed there too and Riggs suggested Gideon would be up high with a sniper rifle. He was right and a firefight ensued. Riggs wasn’t able to get a decent shot off so shot one of the hanging signs. It blocked Gideon’s view of Maria and saved Roger’s life. In the chaos, the pram with the baby began rolling towards an escalator but Riggs managed to dive and grab it. In the pram he found the baby fast asleep.

Riggs spied Gideon and gave chase outside. Palmer arrived in the Mustang owned by Murtaugh’s annoying neighbour and ran Gideon over. He was arrested and taken away.

Back at the precint, Avery spoke to Riggs and was impressed at how Roger had taken down Gideon all on his own. Delgado returned Riggs his badge and gun. Riggs was worried how he would take his relationship with Palmer but he gave it his blessing. Riggs called Palmer and invited her for an actual dinner date at a restaurant and she accepted. Before she left to meet Riggs, Palmer looked over the Miranda Riggs DEA file.

Elsewhere in the episode, Trish (Keesha Sharp) had a job interview with a billionaire called Guillermo (Carlo Rota). He was so keen to employ her that he offered her a blank contract. He wanted to let her set her own terms and even gave her access to his private jet for a couple of days. Trish tried to get Roger to go to Paris with her. He was too busy with work so she took Riana (Chandler Kinney) shopping in Las Vegas instead.

At the end of the episode, Palmer met Riggs for dinner and told him that Miranda’s death was no accident, she had been murdered by Gideon for the cartel. She gave him the DEA file and left him to it. A tear ran down his cheek as he read the file and you could feel the anger building up inside him.
