One Direction have surprised fans today by releasing their new single Drag Me Down.
The first to be released since Zayn Malik left the band, Drag Me Down premiered on iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify worldwide today. The song hasn’t been played on radio yet or streamed online, and the band have caught fans off-guard.
Drag Me Down is a departure for the band showcasing a more mature sound that blends crashing guitars with soaring harmonies.
One Direction have sold over 65 million records worldwide and performed to over 7.5 million fans. In May this year the band won two Billboard Awards for Top Group and Top Touring Artist.
The band are currently on the American leg of their On The Road Again stadium tour, before returning to the UK this September for another sold out arena tour.
Their fifth album is due for release this November.
