Violinist Andre Rieu’s mission to ‘Get The Nation Waltzing’ will be realised with The Week of the Waltz which runs from 1st to 9th November 2014.
150 Waltz parties will take place across the country in various venues, from church halls to shops, ballrooms to people’s front rooms. The event is supported by former Strictly Come Dancing stars Flavia Cacace and Vincent Simone.
Over two thousand members of the public applied to host a waltz party since the launch of the Week of the Waltz over a month ago. 150 hosts have been selected from all corners of the map, from down in the Cornish town of Penryn right up to the Shetland Islands. Each host is sent a complete Waltz Party Box, which includes everything required for such an event – decorations, Venetian masks, André Rieu masks, food, drink, music and most importantly, the special ‘How To Waltz’ DVD instructions from Vincent & Flavia, with words of encouragement from André as well of course!
Talking about the waltz Flavia Cacace says, “The waltz is THE original ballroom dance. The feeling you get when moving around the dancefloor with a partner – be it stranger or loved one – is hard to top! Good for your heart in more ways than one, the health benefits are reason alone to give it a go and, unlike many forms of exercise, it is a joy. Old, young, male, female – this is something everyone can try. Those three simple, repetitive steps take a moment to learn, but before long you’ll be mesmerised and won’t ever want to stop!”
