Diana Beard has been forced to pull out of The Great British Bake Off due to ill health the BBC has confirmed.
The baker, who came under fire following the latest episode in an incident known as #BinGate, injured herself after a fall which has left her without a sense of smell. The BBC confirmed the news in a Tweet last night saying Diana withdraw from the show before the filming of episode 5.
The latest episode of the baking competition saw Diana remove fellow baker Iain’s ice cream from the freezer which appeared to cause it to melt leaving him with no Baked Alaska to show to judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood. Fans of the show took to Twitter to express their outrage but host Sue Perkins waded in explaining that Iain’s ice cream was out of the freezer for 40 seconds.
Paul Hollywood even jumped into the controversy asking people to stop accusing Diana and supporting Sue’s tweet. Diana denied that she had deliberately sabotaged Iain and claims the BBC stitched her up making her a scapegoat.
It is not known yet whether a former contestant will return to take Diana’s place or if the show will continue with one less baker.
