Poeticat – 3rd Arm single review

If you haven’t heard of Poeticat yet, we have a feeling that you soon will. They have seen their fan base steadily rising, having supported the likes of Kate Nash, Ed Sheeran and Jamie Woon on tour and notching up performances at Glastonbury, Latitude, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and at the E4 Udderbelly. Hugo White of The Maccabees described them as “a uniquely individual & odd group, creating original music that defies any genre & creates its own”. They are definitely quirky, a little edgy and their lyrics they choose to put into their songs are completely unique.

Poeticat’s latest release takes on an adventure into the comic book world of a boy who gains a 3rd arm! You’re either going to love this band, or you’ll think ‘they’re a bit Shoreditch, aren’t they’? If we had to compare them, we’d say they were the love child of Super Furry Animals (lyrics wise) with a little bit of Lily Allen thrown in (with the are they singing or are they speaking style of ‘singing’).

Their songs have that spoken, London vibe about them and they are about anything and everything under the sun. We don’t mind what they are writing about, because it’s so much fun listening to songs that are not about love, or anything else that is generic and generally overdone. This song does go on for a bit and ends on a high with a frenzied electronic mash up. We’re excited to see what they’re going to write about next. They are one of those bands that we can imagine going down a storm in a festival and leave you feeling smug that you discovered them first, before your friends and the world in general do.

I am passionate about everything any anything that involves music, theatre and the arts! I love interviewing artists and getting to learn more about them. When I’m not doing artsy things, you may find me watching rugby, singing with my choir and travelling to a new part of the world. Carpe diem.
