Our Top 10 favourite Eternal singles

Eternal are back in the spotlight thanks to the brand new series of The Big Reunion.

This week’s episode saw the girl band talk about their heyday and discuss the in-fights that forced them to go their separate ways. In the 90s Eternal were the biggest UK girl group and sold over 10 million records.

As Easther, Vernie and Kelle get back together (shame on Louise for not coming back!), we take a look at their 10 best singles.

See what made our list below:

10. Don’t You Love Me (1997)

The lead single from their third album Before The Rain (even though Someday was released the previous year and included on the record!). The sultry vocals and children singing at the end were a perfect combination.

9. Crazy (1994)

The first time fans actually heard Louise, Vernie and Kelle sing solo on an Eternal track. The uptempo pop/R&B number is undeniably catchy but as the last single from debut album Always & Forever it gave the group their lowest chart placing to date in the UK.

8. Good Thing (1996)

Taken from 1995 album Power of a Woman, Good Thing got the remix treatment for its single release. The remix was funkier than the original album track and stormed into the UK Top 10.

7. I Am Blessed (1995)

The second UK single taken from Power of a Woman, I Am Blessed was a soaring ballad that was a big hit during the Christmas period. Easther’s vocals on this track are just insane!

6. Angel of Mine (1997)

The last single released with Kelle in the group and the lead single from the group’s 1997 Greatest Hits release. Eternal’s is the definitive version of the track and we wish US R&B star Monica had stayed well clear.

5. Oh Baby I… (1994)

The fifth UK single taken from Always & Forever was given a little bit of a remix for its release. The single version was a little smoother than the album version and was the first proper ballad the group released.

4. Stay (1993)

Eternal made us take notice when they released their debut single Stay in 1993. That first note from Easther heralded the arrival of a UK girl band of the likes we’d never seen before. Funky, soulful and poppy Stay is a true classic.

3. I Wanna Be The Only One (1997)

Shockingly the group’s only UK number 1 single but what a gem it is. Featuring BeBe Winans the track is an uptempo R&B/pop track featuring a call and answer exchange between Easther and BeBe.

2. Power of a Woman (1995)

The lead single from the group’s second album, Power of a Woman saw Eternal reinvent themselves with a harder R&B sound. They over-hauled their image too swapping out the cargo pants for sexy lingerie, short skirts and cleavage flashing tops.

1. Just A Step From Heaven (1994)

It may not have been the group’s most commercially successful single but Just A Step From Heaven is our absolute favourite. The feisty track mixed R&B beats with soulful harmonies and some seriously sexy vocals from Easther. Classic!
