Michael Nyman to celebrate 70th with special events

British composer Michael Nyman will mark his 70th birthday with a series of special events.

In April Nyman will perform four shows as part of The Michael Nyman Band to coincide with their 40th anniversary. The band will be visiting Gateshead, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Bristol.

On April 30th, Nyman will perform at London’s Royal Festival Hall where he will feature two of his concertos and present the UK premiere performance of the first of a series of symphonies with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Symphony No. 2. The concert will be presented by BBC Radio 3’s Petroc Trelawny and will present one of Nyman’s [projected] 19 symphonies – No. 2. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by Josep `Vicent, who has worked extensively with him on several projects in recent years, including the recording of Symphony No.2.

VIP tickets are available for the concert and include an interview with Nyman about his career before the concert. VIP ticket holders will also get a signed piece of manuscript from the World Premiere of Symphony No.2 along with a CD and a meet and greet.
