EFs April Underdogs: Junip & more

More acts include Story Brooks and Cardiknox.

This The Underdogs feature a place where we like to share the new artists we’ve discovered that aren’t necessarily (yet) topping the charts. This month we’ve been working hard and found some exciting acts such as Junip, José González’s new band, fresh rockers Peyote, soft rockers Story Books, singer-songwriter Sheare and poptastic Cardiknox.

The trio made of José González, Elias Araya and Tobias Winterkorn blend beautiful, dreamy sounds with acoustic guitars. González’s vocals add a stunning dimension to the band’s music and their self-titled album was a favourite this month. Also their single Line Of Fire has been played over 200,000 times and their Village Underground show sold out. If you like something a bit different and mellow then this is something for you.

Peyote are a brand new explosive British band with a penchant for Punk, Blues and Rock n Roll. Their unique sound has awarded them fans with BBC Introducing saying ‘they’re going to be ‘all over it’.’ Following on the footsteps of their heroes, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Led Zeppelin the band recorded their first album, Quite Like It in Ronni Lane’s Mobile Studio. We love the video to the title track and the song itself is infectious.

Story Books

Story Books are a five-piece band hailing from Kent. The group made its US debut in SXSW this year and also supported the likes of King Charles on tour. The band are set to perform at various festivals this summer and have released their beautiful EP Too Much A Hunter this month. Their music is filled with beautiful melodies and sounds like something you would hear on an American TV show and get completely sucked into. We love it.

Let us introduce you to Sheare aka Brandon Sheer, a New York City based singer-songwriter who is working his way up the music industry. Having spent several years performing as a solo artist, Brandon has teamed up with guiatarist friend Jay Sarle (who acts as creative and musical director for Sheare). Having spent time writing and recording, Sheare caught the interest of producer Mark ‘Spike’ Stent who has executively produced the debut record. Sheare’s first single We Might as Well Be Dreaming is out now.

Cardiknox are a Manhattan based band made of singer Lonnie Angle and producer/singer Thomas Dutton. The duo blend 80s inspired beats with ferocious vocals and add to that some catchy hooks. The band has a knack with infectious melodies and love to inject snippets of covers into their songs. The band has already released its fiery debut double single, Hold Me Down and Where I Am Headed.
