Music and adverts go hand-in-hand and over the years adverts have been responsible for launching a number of songs to the top of the charts. These days it can be the other way round; a successful song is used to help the marketing campaign of a well-known brand. New collection The Very Best TV Ad Songs collects 40 songs that have featured in popular adverts.

Reading down the tracklist of The Very Best TV Ad Songs is like a jog down memory lane. We’d actually forgotten about a lot of these songs and the adverts they are associated with. The collection opens with Fleetwood Mac’s Everywhere from the Three adverts and closes with Primal Scream’s Movin’ On Up which was used in the Kellogg’s advert. Over the course of the 2-CDs there’s a number of songs from across the years, many of which bring back some great memories.

Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart is one of the standouts from the collection and was used in a Cadbury’s advert. The song is as timeless today as it was upon its first release. Other highlights include Ellie Goulding’s interpretation of Your Song from the John Lewis advert, Olly Murs’ Busy which was used in a Marks & Spencer advert and Will Young’s Grace from a NatWest advert.

The second CD leans more towards the classic tracks with hits from Andy Williams (The Impossible Dream used for Honda), Tony Bennett (The Good Life used for The National Lottery) and Johnny Cash (A Thing Called Love used for NatWest). A surprise inclusion if The X Factor finalists 2011 feat JLS and One Direction on their cover of Wishing On a Star which was used in a festive Marks & Spencer campaign.

There are some real classics contained on The Very Best TV Ad Songs and we’re sure the release will make for a good pub quiz round at some point. Often you don’t really realise the music that forms the soundtrack to your life but this collection will make sure you remember the best songs you’ve heard on adverts in recent years.
