Brace yourselves! Colton Dawson revisits his roots on heartbreaking new single ‘Piece Of Heaven’

Warner Records Nashville artist Colton Dawson continues to carve out his place in country music’s traditionalist lane with the release of his new single ‘Piece Of Heaven’, out now. Steeped in the rich sounds of ‘90s country, the track highlights both his vocal maturity and his instinct for timeless storytelling, but it’s the song’s origin that makes it truly special.

‘Piece Of Heaven’ was written when Dawson was just 16 years old, during a fishing trip on a houseboat in Canada. Remarkably, it was only the second song he had ever written, yet it already showcased a level of emotional depth and lyrical instinct far beyond his years. In many ways, the track became a turning point, sparking the passion for songwriting that would ultimately shape the career he’s building today.

Now, years later, Dawson finally brings that early moment full circle, recording and releasing a song that has stayed with him ever since. The track tells a familiar but deeply felt story: a love that once felt perfect but has since unravelled. Through reflective, heart-aching lyrics, Dawson captures the lingering hope that things might return to how they were, even as that version of the relationship drifts further out of reach.

Lines like “Our little piece of heaven has done gone to hell” cut straight to the core of that emotional conflict, pairing classic country phrasing with a modern sense of vulnerability. It’s a song rooted in tradition, but delivered with a clarity and sincerity that feels unmistakably current.

Speaking about the track, Dawson reflects on its significance: “I wrote ‘Piece Of Heaven’ when I was 16 on a houseboat in Canada on a fishing trip. It was before I really knew anything about songwriting. I just put some words to a melody. It was only the second song I had ever written, but not long after that I fell in love with songwriting. The song is about a good thing going bad and wishing things were the way they used to be. I’ve been waiting to record it for years, and I’m glad it’s finally here.”

With ‘Piece Of Heaven’, Colton Dawson doesn’t just deliver another strong release, he offers a glimpse into the very beginning of his artistic journey. And in doing so, he proves that sometimes the songs that shape you early on are the ones that stay with you the longest.
